Next time you are asked if you are worried about sharks during a swim, quote this true fact:

Each year, the people in New York City bite ten times as many people as do all the sharks world-wide.

See, now I like to freak my children and nephews out during the family Beach Week (which is INVARIABLY Shark Week on the Discovery Channel--- oh, the timing!) and tell 'em they're never more than 25 yards from a shark when they're in the water body surfing. (True, but they're not human aggressive, and we don't play in the waves at twilight, either)

Funny thing here in Fl. No one ever mentions them on swim day. We know they are there, but we just prefer not to mention...Keeps us all safe....

That makes sense. The only time I've ever been bitten in a swim was MIMS 2004.
