I am very excited about this camp and gaining experience in open water: http://annecleveland.com/open-water-swim-coaching/open-water-clinics/

I'd be glad to share a hotel room with another female swimmer. Is anyone else going?

  • I like the idea of a channel swimming clinic. Glad I found the website. Will follow-up with them and see if things work out. Would love to attend if I can.
  • I have my travel arrangements made. Most of the swimmers are staying at the Hawthorn Suites Hotel.

I expect the water will be a bit nippy - around 60 degrees. There's not a lot I can do to acclimate besides taking cold showers. I'll just have to suck it up and think warm thoughts!

  • I would think that it won't take but a day or two to acclimate to 60f water.....

  • Oh Sharko, I wish it could be that quick. I've started cold shower torture in hopes to be a little bit better prepared.

  • Molly, I think Sharko was joking... at least I hope he was :) Obviously it's a bit more complicated than that if you're accustomed to much warmer water.

Hi, Molly. I'll be there. I too need some reacclimating. The water around here juuust broke into the 40s. It's been a while since I've been in 60-degree water, and I hoping it'll be nice and easy to get back into it. Hoping. :)
  • We had a fantastic time and learned a lot in the cold waters of Manhattan Beach at Anne and Mallory's channel swim clinic. I posted reviews of our 4 fast days on my blog: http://mollysbigswim.blogspot.com/

Molly, I love your writing. Seems like you had a blast! I've particularly appreciated the vivid description of the Catalina finish. Certainly something to consider!

@moll1205 Nice blog. I recommend that you take a swim safe device with you next time.

From your blog I felt pretty gross with food and saltwater in my gut and decided to swim to shore. It took for freaking ever.... I was way out from the beach and couldn't see anyone near me....

With a safety device you would have had something to rest on. The group couldn't have helped you.

  • Good advice @Niek. I have an SSD and should have taken it with me. I will next time!
