Southeast Missouri Open Water?

Not really expecting help, but going to ask anyway. I'm going to be at my in law's next weekend near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Are there any decent lakes to swim in that I won't get run over by a party barge or any other boat? Father in law is suggesting the lake in Trail of Tears state park. It will work, and is closed to motorized watercraft, but it's small. Any other options?
