You have no idea how hard it was to try and swim an OW race in Russia. Every year, right outside Moscow (where the water isn't too polluted), they have an OW swim. I tried for two of the three summers I lived there. Never got anyone at the Russian Swimming Fed to answer any of my calls or emails (despite me being not too bad at Russian).
I really see it as an "Epic Fail" (as my kids would call it) that I spent almost three years in Russia and all my OW races were outside that country.
We're all just carbon, water, starlight, oxygen and dreams
No, no, I had that winter swimming website. But for all these swims in Russia you have to get an invite/application from the Russian (Masters) swimming fed. I could never get any responses from any of them...even with the help of a native Russian lifeguard at the embassy.
That's fine. The water in that country is so polluted, probably better I never swam there!

Owen, thanks for the link to your blog. I just finished my Irish 101 class, so when I learn a bit more in 201, I'll start reading your Irish blog posts. Go raibh maith agat!

I'm 39.
Water felt the same as in the last year but air was some 25 degrees warmer!
You're a hard man. Very well done.
