    Thanks, @evmo. I did finish the swim. It was a total of 60 km (all downstream) and I completed it in 12 hrs 8 mins. Apart from walking down two weirs and taking a few steps over rapids, I followed standard English Channel rules. @loneswimmer can vouch for this as he observed the entire swim.

    I tried to convince myself, but, orange flavour electrolyte, mixed with hot chocolate,
    tastes nothing like Terry's Chocolate Orange ....
